Thanks to my care at KOC, I finally feel stable while walking, going up and down stairs, getting in and out of the car, and standing/sitting without pain. Dr. Herman Botero was my doctor. After seeing what many of my friends have gone through with their knee replacement surgery, I was grateful that he had been trained to do the quad sparing minimally invasive procedure. My incision is literally 4 inches!! Mesh was used instead of staples, which made my therapy and recovery much easier. I was walking with no limp the next day. Because the muscles and tendons above my knee were not cut, I felt very little pain. Tylenol was the only pain reliever I took. Because of this, I was able to meet all of my physical therapy goals within four weeks. I just needed to work on building strength in my knee. My physical therapist said that she would definitely recommend Dr. Botero after seeing how successful my surgery was. Because of my success, two of my friends that need surgery on their second knee have said they will be calling Dr. Botero instead of their first doctor. I believe the most helpful thing that he does is his constant contact with his patients through texts, reminding you of what you should be doing, how you should be feeling, and what exercises you should be doing. He is your constant cheerleader. The videos that show how to do the exercises are great. Most doctors give you a paper with pictures on it that probably end up in a drawer! When you receive a text, it reminds you of what you should be doing to get better! He even throws in a joke or two. His office staff (Amber & Samantha) are very helpful and are quick to return your call. I only saw his PA once, but Joshua was very helpful. As you can tell, I can’t say enough positive things about Dr. Botero. I would recommend him to anyone.”

I had my right hip replacement on July 5th. Soon after I committed to a 28.3 mile hike for Cure Search(it turned out to be closer to 32 miles). Over the course of the 4 months following surgery I began walking and hiking and ended up with 360 training miles logged during that time. Early on November 10th we began our hike in honor and memory of all the kids. Our hike was on the Foothills Trail-we started in NC and ended in SC. It was an amazing experience and I felt truly blessed to be able to participate. My hip did amazing! Thanks to my care at KOC, I can…appreciate having my life back every single day. I came to KOC in fall of 2017 not knowing which way to turn, feeling confused, feeling alone and even a little depressed. I spent most of that year being treated for lower back problems and my leg pain was getting worse. Ten minutes with Dr. Paul Johnson and a couple of screams later, I was on my way to not another lower back surgery but a right hip replacement courtesy of Dr. Herman Botero. Imagine my shock at 51 when he walked in and said “You need a new hip and soon…it’s going to get even worse before we can get you in.” My shock gave way to confidence as we discussed the procedure and even made a few jokes. He put me at ease with a “bedside manner” that was quite relaxing and positive to say the least. As you might have guessed, the procedure went off without a hitch and over 2 years later, I’ve yet to have any pain. I look at it as a miracle of modern medical technology and I give thanks to God almost every day for Dr. Botero and his team. A year later, I hiked up to “The Channels” on Brumley Mtn. I took in the vista, snapped a few pics and realized I was up there because of the fine folks at KOC.

I was scared to death about having hip surgery…then I met Dr. Botero. He and his staff are awesome. Everyone was so kind, patient, knowledgeable…and they made me feel special. The experience from start to finish went so smoothly, (I just did water aerobics for the first time in years!) I’m almost looking forward to having my second hip done (almost.) I am looking forward to being a whole new person in only a few months. Before my surgery, I was not able to stand up straight and every time I walked, I was in pain. During my consultation, Dr Botoro explained to me why I was in pain and also why I was bent over and explained how surgery would change my posture and gait. He even took the time to show me my x-rays as an illustration. I was still skeptical, but everything Dr. Botero had told me—well, I have to admit, it turned out to be soooo true. The very same day of my surgery, I was able to walk down the hall—standing up straight for the first time in at least a decade…it was so exciting! Before I knew it, I was off the pain medications and shortly thereafter released from physical therapy and Dr. Botero released me without any restrictions. I can’t say thank you enough to Dr. Botero and his team…Thank you for giving me more than I ever expected.

Dr Botero is by far one of the finest knee surgeons ever. He has a remarkable bedside manner and is totally respectful during office visits. His daily messages via texts were not only extremely helpful, but very encouraging. I can not recommend more highly his service. I am especially pleased with his method of surgery, including the very small incision (4”) compared to the others (10”). My scar is barely visible after 6 weeks. My physical therapist was amazed by my recovery! Dr. Botero gets a 10+!

Thanks to my care at KOC, I can now walk pain free! Dr. Botero and his staff are absolutely amazing. I had my 2nd hip replacement about a month ago and have never felt better. I had both my hips replaced before most people even have one hip replacement but my quality of life is so much better. Before seeing Dr. Botero, I was told I needed to have knee surgery due to the constant pain in my knees. Dr. Botero attributed the pain to my hips not my knees. The journey I have been thru the past year and the long trips from Louisiana are definitely worth it for the care I received by Dr. Botero and his staff.
